Through the Spacetime, Innovating the Future: Tuenteenians Develop “Sovereign” Prototype with Empathy and Win Top Award

Our school’s Innotech team (students Chan Ka Sum, Huang Ho Sen, Ng Chun Yin, and Yiu Tsz Kiu) recently participated in the “Through the Spacetime: Innovating the Future” Innovation and Technology Education Program organized by the Catholic Diocese. Applying the “Double Diamond” design thinking, the team designed a modern time-travel device named Sovereign for Qin Shi Huang, the protagonist of the movie Back to the Past.

Starting with “empathy,” the design aims to help individuals arriving from ancient times or foreign places reduce the stress of adapting to an unfamiliar environment. The Tuenteenians intentionally simplified modern technology, encapsulating complex operations into the traditional Bagua philosophy. From April to June this year, the students demonstrated their “Maker” spirit in the school’s Design and Technology room, successfully building the physical prototype of Sovereign using an ESP32 microcontroller, 3D printing, and laser cutting technologies.

This project, deeply rooted in humanistic care, was proudly exhibited at the Jockey Club JC GoAI booth during the Learning & Teaching Expo 2026 (June 24-25), attracting the attention and encouragement of the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Eric Chan Kwok Ki. Subsequently, at the HKUST Innovation and Technology Achievement Exhibition Day on June 27, the team won the “Top Sales Award” and received high praise from the movie’s director, Mr. Jack Lai. This experience profoundly taught our students that technology originates from humanity, inspiring them to continue bringing warmth to society through STEAM!
