[Tuenteenians Unleash Data Potential] Exploring the Ageing Population Crisis: Our School Wins 2nd Runner-up in the Statistical Project Competition

In the era of information explosion, extracting social trends from a sea of data is an exceptionally valuable skill. We are proud to announce that six Form 5A “Tuenteenians” — Mak Wing Sze, Chan Kin Hei, Huang Cho Ham, Li Yuxiang, Wong Ming Hoi, and Zhu Larry — won the Second Runner-up in the “2025/26 Statistical Project Competition for Secondary School Students” (jointly organized by the Hong Kong Statistical Society and the Education Bureau, with achievements covered by the media in June 2026). They achieved this outstanding result under the dedicated guidance of Mr. Choi Yuk Shing!

Starting from Daily Life to Care for Society
Observing the profound impact of demographic changes on social policies and the economy, our Tuenteenians chose the research topic: “The ageing population — Will it mark the end of the Pearl of the Orient?”. By comparing local and international official data, they conducted an in-depth analysis of the causes and potential consequences of Hong Kong’s ageing population.

Overcoming the Data Maze & Demonstrating Excellent IT Literacy
Throughout the project, the students fully demonstrated their problem-solving spirit by accurately selecting and rigorously analyzing massive datasets. They also flexibly utilized online design tools to create professional and visually appealing statistical charts. This valuable practical experience not only allowed Tuenteenians to acquire advanced statistical knowledge beyond the regular curriculum but also enabled them to apply IT seamlessly in academic research while reflecting deeply on critical local social issues!
